What we do:

The Airdrie Lioness Club Hamper Foundation raises funds to support programs that strive to create strong and healthy futures for the children, youth and families in our community. Every year, we are extremely busy at Christmas time with our Adopt-A-Family Program that provides a more festive holiday season for our children and families experiencing difficulties. Last year, we had a wonderful response to the program with hundreds of Sponsored hampers, toys, gift certificates and cash donations - helping families enjoy a Christmas meal, warm clothing and a great deal of joy.

This program provides personalized hampers for low income families at Christmas. Sponsors are recruited and matched to the recipients. Sponsors may consist of companies, organizations, individuals and families. Minimum requirements for a hamper include fixings for the Christmas meal as well as extra food for the holiday season and one gift for each family member. The Sponsor receives a Sponsor Package, which provides the food hamper shopping list, profile of the family: ages and sizes of each member, and a wish list for the family's gifts. An approximate cost of a complete hamper, which includes gifts and food, for a family of 4 is approximately $400.00.

Our goal is to secure 200 Sponsors who are able to Adopt-A-Family in need this Christmas. Applicants who are not Sponsored receive hampers and gifts directly from the Airdrie Lioness Club.


How you can help:

1. Adopt-A-Family

The Adopt-A-Family Program is a rewarding way to celebrate Christmas and share the spirit of giving. We will provide you with a profile of a family, a grocery hamper shopping list, and a special wish list to help personalize the experience. Ask your friends, family co-workers, teachers, or classmates to join you. We encourage groups to work together as it can be an extremely enjoyable team-building experience. You choose the size of family you would like to assist and you put together the hamper. Please refer to the Sponsor a Family page of our website for more information.

2. Make a cash donation

Monies received are used to purchase food, toys, gift certificates and food vouchers for families who are in need this holiday season. Please refer to the Sponsor a Family/Donations page of our website for more information.

3. Donate food

Every little bit helps when it comes to ensuring that over 220 families who are struggling can provide a Merry Christmas for their children. A can of sauce, a box of cereal, candy canes - any food item helps and you can drop it off at our Hamper Depot or at our table at the Wal Mart main entrance. 4. Volunteer

The Airdrie Lioness have been volunteering to bring the Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program to Airdrie since 1977. However, as the program grows, based on demand, our need for volunteers grows as well. If you have an hour or two to help us with sorting, packing, wrapping, delivering, etc. please let us know. Volunteering and giving back to the community is a good way to remember what the season is truly about. We promise to ensure your experience is Merry!
